The amount of energy that we need varies from moment to moment. At the beginning of the day, after the winter or after an illness, we have to awaken the energy inside us to face the challenges ahead. On the other hand, after a long day at work we feel the need to rest and relax. Every culture has developed rituals to stay in tune with this universal rhythm. These rituals form the inspiration for Energising Rituals. One of Japan's ancient energising rituals was the "Kan-mairi", or winter pilgrimage. On a cold winter night, the pilgrims would run almost naked to the sanctuary, where they dived into icy water or stood under a waterfall, reciting prayers. Up to this day, the traditional yuzu-bath is still honoured. On the day of winter solstice many Japanese add slices of this Japanese lime to their bathtubs as a protection against colds.
According to Ayurveda, the Indian art of living a long and healthy life, the energy in the body is linked with the energy of the universe through chakras, or energy knots, along the spine. Massage is deemed beneficial to improve blood circulation, to tone up the nervous system and to overcome tiredness. Special elixirs from plant extracts help the body to recover after illness or to revitalise the body.
Throughout Asia since ancient times, tea has been appreciated for its stimulating properties. Japanese monks used to drink green tea to stay awake during meditation. Ginseng, the magical 'root of life', and Ginger are famed for their energising qualities. Mint enjoys a universal reputation for its freshness, and Yuzu and Orange also possess stimulating properties.
The roots of plants and trees, bark, flowers, fruit and juices contain many medicinal properties and stimulating aromas. The Energising Rituals range of products derive their power from these natural, stimulating ingredients. Awaken your own energy with our effervescent bath tablets, dynamic deodorants, refreshing shower gels or stimulating facial tonics.
